Step by step washing guide
Remove the cover. Unzip and slide the cover off the foam base every 1 to 2 weeks, or sooner if you notice fur, drool, or a spill. Thanks to the DUALSHIELD™ fabric's built in moisture and bacteria resistance, waiting a little longer between washes is fine too.
Check the foam base. A waterproof liner already sits between the cover and the foam, so the foam itself is well protected from moisture. If you would like extra peace of mind, you're welcome to check it, wipe it down with a damp cloth if needed, and let it air dry fully before putting the cover back on.
Wash cold, wash gentle. Machine wash the cover on a gentle cycle with cold water. It is safe to wash alongside your regular laundry.
Skip the harsh stuff. Leave out bleach and fabric softener. They can wear down the fabric's tear and liquid resistant coating over time.
Dry on low, or air dry. Tumble dry on low heat, or hang the cover to air dry for best results.
Put it back together. Once the cover is completely dry, slide it back over the foam base and give it a good fluff so the bed looks and feels brand new.
Why washing regularly matters
A dog bed collects more than it lets on: dander, drool, dirt tracked in on paws, and natural oils from your dog's coat. For senior dogs and dogs recovering from surgery especially, a clean, dry sleeping surface supports skin health and comfort, not just fresh looks. Washing the cover every couple of weeks keeps allergens and bacteria from building up where your dog rests most of the day.
Here's the catch: even a quick wash and dry cycle takes the cover out of use for a few hours. If your dog is at the age or stage where a familiar, comfortable bed matters most, that gap is one most owners would rather avoid.

Can I use bleach?
We don't recommend it. Bleach can wear down the DUALSHIELD™ coating over time. A mild detergent is all you need.
